June 11, 2008 Dear Tony,
Because of your help and recommendation, I have seen Dr. Logothetis. He has done
additional testing and we met with him yesterday. Fortunately, the testing shows
a very good case for "watchful waiting" or "active monitoring."
The doctor was very kind and patient with us, answered all our questions, went through
the MRI and other tests in great detail, and acted as though I was the most important
patient he had to see all day (definitely not the case). What a Doc!
Thanks to you and other friends who have prostate cancer, I didn't just immediately
sign up for some treatment which might have had serious side effects later. My whole
family appreciates your help and time in my behalf. Hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Arland B. Coleman

Thank you for doing what so many of us wished we could in terms of education and
support. Prostate cancer has had a significant impact on my life and faced with
recurrence after the roller coaster ride last year, it remains a very concerning
presence in my life.
I must have had cancer for several years and did not realize the symptoms, or my
doctor's exams were inconclusive. I recall having severe pain which now seems as
if it were prostate related almost 18 years ago, followed by years of urinary challenges.
It wasn't until a routine physical that showed a PSA of 25 did I get an urologist
who recognized my cancer immediately. The radical prostatectomy was the first option
for me with an advanced stage of cancer. For over a year, I was comforted by PSA
readings of less than 0.1 until this August when it spiked to 5.8. The fear of dying
from prostate cancer was overwhelming.
I have spent a lot of time reading and researching everything available related
to recurring cancer and have come to the conclusion that a medical oncologist consultation
would be helpful in determining what treatment to pursue. The MD Anderson Clinic
and Johns Hopkins are two of the most highly rated facilities in our country and
I look forward to meeting with Dr. Logothetis to explore what options are available
to me.
Rest assured that what you are doing makes a difference to patients like me. We
may not have the numbers associated with other forms of cancer, but numbers and
percentages don't bring much comfort to someone who is stricken with prostate cancer.
Please keep up your good work on behalf of all prostate cancer patients and our
families.
Chris Denison, Denver, Colorado
